I am super excited today to be introducing Chloe Trundle one of my super talented and awesome friends. We have now known each other for about 8 years. We have holidayed together, lived together, and just generally been through loads of life changes together and I am so happy we are still close. Chloe is such a creative inspiration to me. Anyway check out what she has to say about what she does...and peruse some of the lovely work she has created recently.
Where do you live and how do you think it influences your work? I currently live in the countryside - in Hungerford, West Berkshire. I've moved here recently to live with my bf, I was living in London Fields, East London. He's a country boy through and through, and was never going to move to London so I moved to be with him. To be honest, I love living here, it's so refreshing and couldn't be more of a contrast to the place I've just left. I am only an hour away from London, but would actually say now that I'm no there I strive to stay inspired and in-touch with things more than I did before the move. I now have a dog (by default) and my morning walk with him in the open countryside really helps me think through my day ahead and is one of the nicest ways to start the day.
How would you describe what you do? That's tricky. I am a bit of a jack of all trades. I'm never really sure that's a good thing either! Creatively, I don't like being pigeon-holed, this has always been my downfall - well, career wise I think this is a downfall. This is why I've made the decision to go at it alone, and create my own little brand, doing what I love. This is not for the faint hearted, some days I get really fed up with and think maybe I'd be better off with a "normal" job. A saying that I find super relevant is "Follow your dreams, or you'll spend the rest of your life working for someone who did." I am stubborn, ignorant, but determined...so yes, I want to do what makes me happy. Life is too short working a job you hate, wishing you were doing something else.
What are your tricks for getting inspired when you have a creative block? Know thyself. If you're having a block, sometimes it's for a reason and having an "off day" is okay. It's hard being super productive all day, every day. It is totally fine to walk away and do something else. Ideas pop up sometimes when you least expect it. Pinterest helps - but only in small doses! I go on there for 15 minutes or so in the evening, a few days a week. Too much of that kind of thing steals valuable "design time".
What is your favourite project/piece that you have worked on and why? This "I just want to drink coffee, create awesome things and sleep print." print, is one of my newest designs, and probably one of my new favourites. It's witty and fun involvesnice typefaces.
If you could learn a new skill what would it be? I would love to one day own a letterpress or a screen print studio. That would be the dream. Screen printing, I get, - but learning how to use a letterpress machine would be so cool!
What is your favourite song right now? Ultraísta - Gold Dayzz (Maribou State remix) - has been my song for the summer.
Which designers/artist/photographers get you super inspired and excited? I find it hard to be inspired by one person for any length of time longer than I week. Fickle, I know. At the moment, I love the Scout & Catalogue blog, she's super talented and her collection of leather goods are stunning. Graphic Artist, Santtu Mustonen createswork I find very inspiring and easy on the eye. There is also a lot of great talent over on Etsy.
How do you relax and unwind? I'm about to do this much more effectively now I don't live in London! I love walking Rudy (the dog) in the woods by my house, I'm really into cooking these days, driving my car along the country lanes or going fishing my bf, Andrew.
What is your top tip for life? If it doesn't make you happy, don't do it. A content and happy soul is very good for your health and well-being. I'm 27 and I've only really just learned this!
