Shop Small: My wishlist
christmas3.jpg

A few weeks ago I shared a shop small guide to Christmas cards - well this week is ‘my wishlist’! These are the things that I would love to get for Christmas and I think you guys will love them to and they might be inspiring as you work out what to get for friends and loved ones. I thought I would share a bit about each one - but please check out all the small businesses that I have linked below because they really are lovely and these are not the only products that they sell.

1. Sleepy Doe - Mumma Collar PJ set - I already have a set of sleepy doe pyjamas and they are seriously so comfortable. Right now my nights are spent breastfeeding so I really want a comfortable and warm set of pyjamas that button down the front for easy access. These tick ALL the boxes. They also do gorgeous kids pyjamas.

2. The Botanical Candle Co - Soy Wax Melt gift box - I have been in love with this company ever since I discovered them on instagram and bought one of their gift boxes for my sister in law. Their candles are gorgeous, their packaging is beautiful and I just love their aesthetic - everything they sell is stunning. I love the simplicity of soy wax melts and think this would be a beautiful and relaxing addition to my bedside table.

3. Claire Hill Designs - Feather Gold Charm Necklace - I am a big fan of simple gold jewellery and have been a fan of Claire Hill’s designs for a little while. I love this leaf necklace and she also has a beautiful acorn one, and I think it would look great layered with some longer gold necklaces.

4. Tilly and the Buttons - Stevie Dress Pattern - I have been wanting to try and make my own clothes for a little while but my sewing abilities are not that great, but I think this pattern from Tilly and the Buttons could be a good place to start. I love this style of dress and it is supposed to be a good pattern for beginners. All I will need to do is find the time - ha!

5. Fine Little Day - Book - Fine Little Day create such inspiring designs and products and I saw this book in a shop a few months ago and it just looked so inspiring, and full of creativity and ideas for living a creative life.

6. Young Gums - Beth Bently - I am constantly getting stuck in ruts with what meals I feed my toddler, and next year I will start weaning my daughter so thought a new kids cook book to give me some inspiration would definitely help. This one looks great and I have heard people rave about it.

7. Libby Ballard - Ceramic Travel Mug - I am not a coffee or tea drinker so haven’t got myself a reusable travel mug but my chai latte and hot chocolate intake has gone up recently so I thought it was time to stop getting throw away cups in cafes. This ceramic travel mug is gorgeous and comes with a fabric band to hold onto. Super stylish and I just love beautiful ceramic mugs.

8. Lines and Current - Mona Ring - My love for gold jewellery continues with this simple but stylish ring from Lines and Current. They have so many beautiful products but I really love all of their jewellery. This one has been on my wish list ever since I saw it.

Another thing to mention is that this week is Just a Card’s Indie Week and loads of small businesses have been posting on instagram and sharing about what they make and so if you check out the hashtags #indieweek and #justacard and you will find so much inspiration and lots of ideas for great gifts. Just a Card do such an incredible job of supporting and championing small businesses and you can find out more about their reason for existing and how you can get involved here.

Shop Small: Christmas Cards
christmas2.jpg

This year as I am on maternity leave and not selling any of my own products, I thought I would share the love for some other of my favourite small businesses and do a series of Christmas gift guides on the blog. I have decided to start off with Christmas cards which is one of my favourite things to shop for from independent illustrators and designers as they are often so beautiful and different from what you might pick up in the high street shops. I am going to keep the format of these posts pretty simple - and below are 8 of my favourite packs or designs that I have seen and I really hope that you will love them too. Yes buying from small independent businesses can end up costing a little bit more, but usually the quality, the gorgeous designs and the customer service make it work while. As a small business owner myself I can tell you for sure every sale really does make a difference to the people behind the scenes (and it is often just one person doing everything) and Christmas is an especially important time for them. Maybe you can’t afford to shop small for all of your christmas cards or all of your gifts, which I totally get, but even just one pack of cards, or one gift can make a big difference. And if you want to find out more you can always check out the Just a Card campaign which is constantly championing and supporting small, independent, and local businesses. Enjoy shopping and I hope you find something that you love below. Also keep an eye out for my gift guides which will be coming up in the next few weeks right here on the blog!

Things I am loving on Etsy - Nursery edition

I think I have mentioned it before but we have been re-jigging and painting the rooms upstairs in our house to make room for the baby. We have done some serious de-cluttering and so far I am really happy with our choices and how things are coming together.  The thing that is really missing though is artwork for the nursery walls! So obviously I got lost in the rabbit hole of Etsy looking for some. I was a bit disheartened when I first started looking - I searched for nursery prints and there was just so so much stuff that wasn't my style (and depressing when you find things that are blatant rip-offs of your friends work!). I guess there is so much on Etsy now, that you have to trawl through quite a lot to find the gems. BUT I persevered and forgot about looking at things that were specifically for a nursery and just found illustrators I liked. I REALLY love the prints I found below and think all of them would look great in a nursery (or anywhere in the house to be honest). Now to decide which ones to get!

1. Plantas Prints - by Depeapa

il_fullxfull.620231157_5whi.jpg

You know what, I think this bird alphabet by illustrator Sarah Abbott might be the winner. I have admired this print for ages but had forgotten about it - I think it would look perfect on the nursery wall!

What do you think about these prints? Do you have any other favourites you have found?

Shop independent this Christmas

One thing that I love about the internet is how easy it is these days to sell things online - as a result there are so many creative talents selling beautiful products. I love starting my Christmas shopping early and feeling organised and on top of it all - I think part of it is because I just love buying gifts and thinking about what my friends and family will enjoy.

In recent years obviously being a small business owner myself I feel more and more passionate about supporting small businesses and shopping from 'independent' places as much as possible.

I am gathering quite a nice little collection of independent shops online and so I thought I would share them in case you are like-minded and want to start ticking things off the list in preparation for Christmas. All of these shops I have featured below are also all UK based because lets support local while we are at it hey!

So lets dive right in...

The Pattern Guild - A friend brought me a pencil case from these guys and I use it constantly and love it. The patterns are beautiful and the products are handmade and really quality!

Things I am loving at Crafty Fox

Guys I have probably mentioned it enough on Twitter but just in case you haven't heard, this Sunday I am going to be selling my cards, prints and notebooks at Crafty Fox Market. I have been wanting to sell my stuff at a market for a while now (see my goals earlier in the year) and I am so glad that Crafty Fox is going to be my first one.

The market (which I have been to before as a punter) is going to be at the Dogstar in Brixton, which is a pub that gets transformed for the weekend. The bar is still open though so you can pick up a beverage while you wander around taking everything in. If you are free I would absolutely love for you to come visit and say hi. There are so many amazing creative people selling their stuff there it should be ace.

In the spirit of all that, instead of doing a 'things I am loving on Etsy' post I thought I would do a 'things I am loving at Crafty Fox' instead, and share some of the stalls I am excited about visiting (haha if I can convince my husband to man the stall for a bit while I sneak off and spend money!)

These are just a few I have my eye on but check out everyone who is selling here

IMG_0181_1024x1024.JPG

Prickle Press - I have been following Rachel online for a while, so I am looking forward to meeting her in person and also checking out her lovely cards. I totally love letterpress so will be good to stock up on greetings cards!

il_fullxfull.511168097_8ml1.jpg

Lucie Ellen - I bought the necklace pictured a while ago for myself (and also got some other colours for friends) and I love it, so am thinking about buying some more jewellery from her to add to my collection. They are really beautiful simple wooden items and work well with so many different outfits.

Clement and Claude - I hadn't heard of these guys but their soy wax candles look awesome! I love a good candle and so am totally planning to snag myself one of these. The scents sounds really good too if the website is anything to go by! Wild plum sounds perfect for Autumn and as things get colder around here will definitely need to up my candle game.

il_fullxfull.821145590_fup9.jpg

Natalie Strachan Ceramics - Another definite Autumn plan is drinking lots of hot chocolate and this mug would be perfect for that. I am really excited to check out Natalie's ceramics and maybe find some nice choice items for our new kitchen that is being installed soon (!!).

Screen Shot 2015-09-28 at 12.59.09.png

Dr Designs - I got myself some succulent babies recently and so I really fancy one of these concrete plant pots to make them look pretty and to make a bit of a feature of them. I think concrete can be so stylish when used in interiors.

Anyway I hope this has whet your appetite a bit. Come visit and see all of these lovely things and meet of all the creative people who make them in real life! Real life is where it is at! Ha!

things I am loving on Etsy

I felt in the mood for a little round up of some things that I am loving on Etsy so here is my latest edition. Recently I have been really re-thinking what artwork and prints that I have on my walls. I am moving some things around and also in the market for some new artwork to fill in some gaps. There is loads of amazing artwork that you can find on Etsy so I thought I would share some of my favourites that I have found in my searches. Hope you enjoy!

1. Succulents Print - Small Adventure - Everyone is crazy for succulents right now and this would have fit in perfectly with yesterdays 'blush' moodboard. This illustration would be a beautiful addition to any wall.

2. Sweater - Karolin Schnoor - I am a huge Karolin Schnoor fan and I have loved this print for a long time now. I love the monochrome and the composition of this piece.

3. Coney Island - Sophie Backall - eek! how cute is this illustration. I think this would look so fun and playful on the wall. Those tattoos! That moustache!

4. My Brain - A Pair of Pairs - This print totally sums up how I feel so often! That is probably why it's so popular, so many people can relate to it. Simple black and white but lovely hand lettered type.

5. Woman and branch - depeapa - I really like the childlike nature of this illustration. It is so simple but just so perfect. I think this would add a great pop of colour to a wall or room.

6. Get Lost in Nature - Worth While Paper - This is such a great bold typographic print. Love the combination of type and foliage.

Now just need to decide which of these to add to my collection! Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday.

things I am loving on Etsy

I have noticed that there is a mega gold foil craze going on right now? I have always loved the look of gold foil prints and stationery so I am pretty happy with that, but I have also noticed that some of them can look kind of lame. There are a lot of people doing faux gold foil which I am not massively into. Anyway May is seriously the month of birthdays for me so I thought I would do a little round up of gold foil goodies that I have found that I think would make great gifts. The first print though is from my friend Chloe Vaux and it is classic, beautiful and real gold foil. You will actually be able win one of these (along with a lot of other amazing goodies) on May 25th when I am doing a mega giveaway.

1. Chloe Vaux gold foil print - Chloe is a great friend of mine and has beautiful prints in her shop. She recently started selling this gold foil one which is think is really classic and beautiful!

2. Meticulous Ink, Gold foil notebook - This little notebook would be great for carrying around while you're on the go. Beautifully classic.

3. Clouds and Currents, You're the bee's knees gold foil card - This card is super cute and would be a great birthday card, but also you could send it anytime to let a friend or loved one know how much you think they rock!

4. Moospie, illustrated gold foil journal - This journal is a stunner and is hand bound and includes a cute little illustration in the bottom right corner by illustrator Francesca Eastwell.

5. Sparrow and Wolf, A6 gold foil notebook - I love the patterns on these notebooks. Especially the ones with the little plus signs. These would make a great little gift for a creative friend.

Hope you enjoy all these treats, also did you see my post about the launch of Calder & Byrne last week? They are selling some of my prints and cards and I am so happy to be involved because they are all about supporting small local makers and designers and Siobhan who set it up has great taste! If you haven't seen it yet go and have a look around!

Hope you have a great Monday!

Calder & Byrne
liz-mosley-keep-it-simple-a4-print_resized_large.jpg

Guys I have slightly switched up my posting schedule this week, because I am so excited to share with you today the launch of a new online shop called Calder & Byrne created by the wonderful Siobhan from Bless the Weather. I am so so honoured that she is stocking some of my prints and greetings cards, and I am looking forward to working with Siobhan and Calder & Byrne more in the future. Siobhan has such great taste and so this shop is just packed full of things that I want to buy. That was pretty much Siobhan's inspiration for the shop - to create a place where you can go and buy a whole variety of items that would be great for gifts and also to treat yourself, but they are all in one place so you can kind of do a one stop shop order! I know already that this is the place I am going to be going for birthday presents and also maybe little treats for me :)

The other main goal of the shop is to support local and UK based artists, and that is kind of how Siobhan and I connected, we actually live fairly near each other! She can pretty much just come round and pick up stock when ever she wants. I love that community feel and am just so excited to support her vision for this. So seriously, support the small businesses and the one man band makers in the UK and go spend some of your pennies in Calder & Byrne! Two of the prints they are selling of mine are totally exclusive to C&B so that is the only place you will be able to find them!

things I am loving on etsy

Guys, I have been finding so many beautiful shops and amazing things on etsy recently and I haven't done a post sharing what I am loving on etsy for a while (since this one) so I thought It was time. I have been umming and ahhing because I have a gift voucher and I just can't decide what to spend it on! I have tried to keep it to the UK and Europe but the odd US/Aus entry might have sneaked in!

1. How cute is this calligraphy kit. This would make such a great gift for a creative friend or just for yourself if you wanted to learn. Ever since taking this modern calligraphy class I am obsessed with all things calligraphy.

2. I love this shop Depeapa - and I am a fan of all things spattered ink...this bag is cute with the little blush details too.

4. This thank you stamp is so cute. It is always nice to say thank you right?

5. Not sure why but I am currently obsessed with ring dishes. I haven't bought one yet but am on the look out and this one is super cute.

Fairtrade Fortnight

I am not sure if you know or not, but at the moment it is 'Fairtrade Fortnight'. It happens every year and is to raise awareness about how as consumers we can make a difference in people's lives across the world just by the decisions we make whilst we're shopping. By buying something that is certified as fairly traded you are ensuring that the people who made the item were paid a good wage, worked in good conditions and were treated with respect (amongst other things). There are lots of Fairtrade initiatives springing up but it can still be hard to find good and stylish products that you would actually want to buy and so I thought in the spirit of 'Fairtrade Fortnight' I would share some of my favourite places for buying Fairtrade products. A long time ago I used to work in a Fairtrade shop in Cardiff that had lots of amazing products from all over the world and I learnt so much about it all and even used to give talks on the topic in schools and even at a big conference once. Recently, as I have been thinking about consuming less and being more thoughtful about the products that I do buy (and wanting them to be really good quality) - I have been trying to make more of an effort to make sure they are fairly traded as well whenever possible.

There is still a long way to go with Fairtrade in the UK and I know it is not always possible to buy Fairtrade, but I wanted to encourage you when you're shopping to think about choosing the Fairtrade option and also to check out some of the lovely shops below. If you want to find out more about Fairtrade you can read more about it here

People Tree - Not everything is my taste but People Tree has some really beautiful clothes and some lovely jewellery. I love the bracelet above. I also just treated myself to this one.

Those are the main shops that I wanted to share but there are lots of other places you can find Fairtrade goods. Supermarkets like Sainsbury's, Waitrose and the Co-op have a lot of Fairtrade food ranges for instance. I am going to keep researching and trying to find great companies selling Fairtrade.

Christmas Independent shopping guide

I think christmas preparation is starting to really pick up now. I like to get started early so that I don't leave everything to the last minute. With a growing family there are more and more people to think about. This year I am trying to spend some time thinking about the gifts I get and where I get them from. For some people I am going to down the hand made route but for others I am trying hard to support independent shops. Since setting up my etsy shop earlier in the year I have just realised how lovely it is to support independent makers and designers and there are so many beautiful online shops out there that I have discovered this year.

So I thought to help you guys out if you are looking for ideas I would put together a post of some of my favourite shops. Some of these I have bought from myself - some of them I am planning to buy from - and some are on my own christmas wish list! All of these are UK based because I wanted to support shopping local as well.

Have a look through at all the talent out there and hopefully this will help kick start your christmas shopping. If you click on the images below it will take you straight to the shops

things I am loving on etsy

Since re-launching my etsy shop I guess I have been hanging out on there quite a bit more, and so I have been discovering lots of beautiful shops and things that I love. Etsy really is such a lovely and wonderful community and I just love exploring and finding creative and inspiring people – So I thought I would share some of the things I have found recently and that are on my wishlist! Expect more of these sort of posts in the future!

Miplusedesign has become a firm favourite etsy shop of mine. I just love the beautifully simple designs > and I pretty much love everything in this shop.

If I had a bottomless pit of money I would snap these beautiful dishes up in a heart beat. Can you imagine these on your chest of drawers holding rings and jewellry? Stunning.

A beautiful simple triangle necklace that I would happily hand round my neck!

sadly these beautiful cups with handlettering don't ship to the UK.

These are quite possibly the most beautiful envelopes I have even seen. If i owned them though I don't think I would be able to send them to anyone.  The rest of Karolin's shop is lovely too.

I sometimes tease my dad that his favourite colour is brown and beige. When I was younger I loved bright colours. I went to school wearing a matching legging and t-shirt combo covered in flowers which resulted in some bees getting confused and thinking I was a bush of flowers. Someone once looked in my wardrobe and said it was visually offensive because of all the bright colours. Well...as I have got older I feel like my tastes are changing. I am much more drawn to natural and muted shades and colours, In my house decor, my wardrobe and also my accessories. I like that my style and tastes are changing. This is a collection of a few things I saw on the interweb and were drawn to, and don't you think they all look pretty together?

I don't think I can really tease my dad anymore because I love a bit of beige...but I love tan even more!

Gifts I would like to give...

gifts

I love Christmas - like seriously LOVE it. I think definitely more than most people seem to. I start planning and buying gifts way early, talking about it (and annoying my colleagues) and yeah just lots of general over excitement. Now obviously the most awesome thing about Christmas is that Jesus was born, and Jesus is as awesome as it gets, (want to know why?) but other things I love about Christmas, are decorating the tree, catching up with friends at the midnight service, eating yummy food, having my whole family in one place together, eating and drinking lots of yummy things, opening presents, and then falling asleep in front of the tv, the woodburning stove, christmas music, boxing day walks with friends and eating leftovers...seriously i love it all. But one of things that I really really enjoy (and do all year round, but this a more concentrated amount) is buying gifts. I love buying gifts for people. Anyway after all that waffle about my love of Christmas, here are some things that I would love to give people this christmas. Sadly NM has far too many cook books so probably won't be getting the Kinfolk Cook book (4) - but it looks awesome. How awesome are the monogramed soaps!! I would never want to unwrap them! and the tooth brush holders make me smile.

Anyway maybe these will spark some ideas for you and help with your gift buying...hope you all have a very festive lead up to Christmas!

Freitag

Have you ever seen these little product promo video's created by Freitag? I can't believe I have only just stumbled upon them - but they are pretty clever and fun. Freitag is all about “recontextualizing” - and giving used materials a new life. I think we can all agree that they do that in a beautiful way. I enjoyed reading the story about how they got started and drooling over some of their beautiful products.

I think these are without a doubt the most beautiful memory sticks I have ever seen. You can get them here. Some times it really does bum me out that I don't live in America and it would be easier to buy all of these lovely things. NM and my bank balance are probably pretty pleased about it though.

This weeks finds are pretty cute. I love the idea of the one year of white pages - what a great gift that would be! oh man I love notebooks. So I think I am going to do a new little feature on the blog called 'Lizzy Loves' - which is basically going to be a bunch of pretty things that I have seen and loved that week. This is not me telling you to go out buy lots of things and spend money...but maybe you will find some cool shops, or ideas for gifts or just get inspired.

This is where you can find everything from this weeks round up!

etsy birthday wishlist

As if getting married wasn't exciting enough I have a birthday coming up (ok blatantly its no where near as exciting as getting married...and this year it will be low key - but still!) and since being back from honeymoon and spending a little bit more (A LOT MORE) time on the internet I have seen quite a few things that I am loving on etsy. Also somethings that I have posted here before that I still love. Anyway I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to do a little round up/birthday wishlist so as to hint to NM in a very unsubtle way some things I would like. (I am still not even sure he reads this blog though! haha) Man etsy is awesome. Hope you enjoy these things. Go buy them for someone you love!

This week I am breaking from tradition and instead of featuring a round up of things I have found on etsy I am just going to show you one shop I have found. Let me introduce Wood & Grain. I am in love. Their shop is divine and just filled with simple and beautifully crafted things inspired by nature. A lot of the items they sell are for weddings (why did I not find them 5 months ago!!) but they also have other cute things like the thank you stickers (middle top) and also gift tags (bottom left and bottom right) which I am drooling over and may need to put in a little order pronto! They also have a lovely blog - check out this awesome invitation suite (below) that they did for their own wedding! - Incredible. Go check out their shop and blog. This is definitely my favourite etsy shop right now. I will let you know when I find another gem.
