I got my camera out on a grey drizzly sunday a few weekends ago and took some pics around Battersea park. (oh yeah and we stumbled upon a little fun fair!) Getting my camera out and having a play was long overdue and it was clear how rusty I have got. These are just a few of the shots that I didn't hate. I am determined to keep practicing. I am also currently dreaming about owning this camera. but ALOT of saving needs to happen first! Anyone need a logo or any design doing and willing to pay the big bucks? no seriously...I am very reasonable :)
I am so excited to start this series of little interviews with creative people I admire and who have inspired me. I am pretty chuffed that the lovely Bianca has agreed to be the first. I first noticed Bianca on instagram a few months ago and have been a fan ever since. She captures the world in a really beautiful way and also her inked typography is HOT STUFF! Read the interview below, get inspired and go follow her on EVERYTHING.
Where do you live and how do you think it influences your work? I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am currently studying at Swinburne University of Technology - the design campus is in an inspiring creative inner city suburb called Prahran.
In general, Melbourne's a pretty cool city (slightly bias...) A lot of my favourite design studios are in Melbourne.
How would you describe what you do? Oh gosh, umm. Haha.Right now, I study graphic design full time. On the side I freelance as a designer and photographer. Most of the design work I get commissioned to do is logo design - especially in ink. Basically I spend a lot of time with a paint brush, paper and ink and also a lot of time on my pretty iMac.
What are your tricks for getting inspired when you have a creative block? Most of the time when I'm in a bit of a blah creative block, I try to get creative by hand.Get back to the basics so to speak. I usually mess with some inking. Or if I can get away with it, I remove myself from being creative for a little while. A little space can help, I find.
If you could learn a new skill what would it be? Ohh, I would love to be able to do more fancy things with typography. I wanna design a typeface! One day hey?
What is your favourite song right now? Can I pick a couple or a few? It's so hard to choose... I am loving City and Colour's latest album 'the Hurry and the Harm' and Matt Corby's latest song 'Revolution' has been on repeat too.
Which designers/artist/photographers get you super inspired and excited? I'll start with Paul Rand, Alex Stitt and textile designer Vera Neumann. Melbourne has some incredible studios, I especially love the work that comes out of Motherbird and A Friend of Mine and Mildred and Duck. I also just recently spent four weeks interning at Kish and Co.
How do you relax and unwind? I can be a bit of a home-body (sometimes) - love sipping on a hot tea and listening to music. But I also love spending a day out: brunch with friends + browsing cute stores or a market. I love casual photo walks too.
What is your top tip for life? Be kind. I think if I had to choose one, it would be that as it kinda covers so much.
