This Month // May

The month of May is always a good one for me, the weather is usually getting better, there are sometimes holidays on the horizon and it's my birthday month! NM teases me that I usually make my birthday celebrations stretch out for a whole month but I think this year that is legitimate what with turning 30 and all! Here is a bit of what I have been up to:

1. I did a little lino printing workshop with the lovely Olu and the Making Uncovered event. It was really fun and inspired me to get some new linocutting tools and get experimenting again.

2. I launched the Father's Day cards in the shop - there are 4 different designs for you to get your mitts on. You can see them all here. The shop will be closed for the first two weeks in June but there is time this week to get your order in, or there will still be time to get them in time when it opens again.

3. I did the biggest giveaway I have ever done on my blog to celebrate my birthday and it is still on now! If you haven't entered already you really should, there are so many stationery treats to win AND an etsy gift card.

4. I spent a bit of time this month reflecting on what I have learnt over the last 30 years and I shared some of this on the blog on Monday. It was an interesting post to think about and put together.

5. We did a flying trip to Cardiff to visit family for my birthday. There is this one park that I always love going to and the flowers were out in all their colourful glory! It was pretty impressive to be honest. Flowers and nature always make me happy. So much beauty!

6. I know I have mentioned this quite a bit here but the highlight of this month was the launch of Calder and Byrne. I have loved working with Siobhan on some products for the shop that she launched at the beginning of May. I was so excited to be involved.

Anyway that is all for this month. On Monday we go to New York for a few days so am looking forward to putting some posts together about that.

Another quick reminder, there is still time for you to enter my birthday giveaway! It closes at midnight on Thursday so not long to go - get over there quick!

Hope you all enjoyed your May bank holiday and are having a lovely Wednesday!

Inspired by Rocio Montoya

Ever since I discovered Laura from cardboardcities blog, I have wanted to experiment with creating my own collages. (Aren't Laura's collages and patterns awesome!).

Anyway a little while ago on Fubiz I stumbled across the work of Rocio Montoya and fell even more in love with collage as an art form and now I am determined to have a go. I think what I would like to do is around the beginning of each month share an artist that is inspiring me and then use that as a catalyst to experiment and try different mediums out that I am not that used to. It may end up that what I create turns out to be not that good, but I like the idea of using this space to document my attempts. So later in March look out for some of my own collage attempts.

In the mean time enjoy and be inspired by Rocio Montoya's work

I really love how she combines black and white photographs with nature elements that are in colour. They are just so beautiful and dreamy. I especially love the composition of the image above with the rose falling down below the bottom of the black and white image.

I like the intrigue that is added to the image above with cutting out their faces and parts of their bodies. It makes you wonder who they are and what they were doing.

My Year // April

April was a good month. Time with family and friends. A good break from work. Anniversary celebrations and finishing some big projects. I am excited about having a bit more space to work on my etsy shop over the coming months. A couple of these pics show some playing around I have done on that front. Bring on May - May is my favourite month!

Check out January, February and March.

Double Exposures

I have been seeing some really beautiful double exposures around the web recently and it is making me itchy to experiment. Then today I stumbled across (on Fubiz) these beautiful photo realist paintings by Pakayla Biehn of double exposures. They are truly beautiful, and I find them even more mesmerising knowing that they are painted. Photo realistic paintings have always had my jaw dropping starting from my long time love of Chuck Close. Enjoy these beauties and more of Pakayla's work here.

Little Loves // 07

Feeling happy that I finally managed to do this post on a sunday! Have been enjoying some relaxing time off from work over easter. Here are my loves for this week...its been a good one. Happy Easter. 1. More beautiful views on my way to work. I walked part of the way to work twice this week (Which is pretty good as I was only in 3 days) and the weather was perfect and it was just a really nice way to start the day... having time to think and daydream.

2. Enjoyed playing with my new stamp!

3. On a rainy easter sunday this bit of paper in the street made me smile.

4. The graffiti in Shoreditch just keeps getting better and better. These bright letters are awesome.

5. A little outing to Columbia Road flower market is always good. Enjoying my peonies and ranunculus.

6. We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary and found an old school photobooth. Fun times.

This week has been a bit busier than I would like. Things at work are ramping up, I am finishing a course and need to do a self counselling essay which is pretty intense. The things I have on are lovely but after a slower start to the year I am craving that slower pace again. I am still trying to keep noticing the little things around me that are lovely even when things get a bit hectic. Here are this weeks little loves.... 1. I finally got round to making this pom pom garland. You can't see it very well in this photo but I used a light yellow wool for the bits in between and then a bright yellow of the actual pom pom's. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out for a first attempt, would like to try some other colours though.

2. I read this book by Austin Kleon at the beginning of the week. It really inspired me and got me excited...and now I need to be better at sharing what I am working on. My plan for this blog has always been to show more work but it has not materialised yet. Watch this space. (and read this book because it is amazing)

3. Got to have a quick brunch with this beauty, and here she is wearing the snood I knitted her. My knitting skills are basic but I am in love with making these big chunky knit snoods. She requested a green and it looks so good on her.

4. These pink petals on the floor. Although they were starting to rot they looked so pretty and almost like confetti.

5. Spending time with family and going for a walk with these guys. I miss them already. I love living in London but sometimes I just want to gather all the people I love and make them live near me! ha.

6. This little flower in a sea of green and brown caught my eye. What a total beauty. The pattern on the petals is just incredible. and those colours. God is the ultimate artist.

I am loving these posts. I am finding them so helpful and encouraging. They really are making me think every week about the things I am thankful for and noticing the small things. It is so good to be reminded of how blessed I am and how much there is to be thankful for each week. This weekend we had some lovely friends to stay which always makes for a good time. Last week at work I did some really long hours and so had to remind myself to notice the little good things around me more than normal as my eyes were just fuzzy and tired from looking at my computer screens for reeeaaalllly long periods of time. bleeuurrggh. Hopefully this week coming up will be a bit more chilled! Here are some little things I loved this past week.

1. These beautiful flowers from Chloe bean. I was spoilt this week with flowers from NM too. Flowers make me happy.

2. A day out with these two lovely human beings along the southbank.

3. I finally got round to planting some herbs. Lets see if I can tend and nurture these little guys. Determined to turn my black thumbs green this year.

4. I made cookies for our weekend guests and think I have found the perfect cookie recipe. Will have to give this its own little post soon.

6. This was an epic and fairly healthy brunch. My new favourite place is Ben's Canteen on St Johns Hill. I am going to be recreating this yumminess very soon!
