Can you believe it is the end of June - I reckon this summer is going to whizz right by. I have been trying to keep up with handlettering and here are a few of this month's offerings. I usually post them on my instagram so you can follow along with them there. I have been sticking with the white on black but I feel like I need to push myself and try something different so I might branch out a bit and try some other things.

You can see more of my hand lettering stuff in my Etsy shop, I have been working on some commissions recently so if you have a quote or phrase that you love and that you would like handlettered feel free to get in touch for a quote!

Hope you all have a great day!

Maps of New York

Do you like maps? I am a bit of a fan of a good map. I have had these Herb Lester maps for a while now and I am so excited that now I am going to actually be able to use them when we go to New York in June. I really love these maps from Herb Lester. I have quite a few for London too and one for Paris. They are small and pocket size and have lots of interesting suggestions of places to go. There is just something so satisfying about a beautifully created and illustrated map - it is such an incredible skill, because let me tell you I have dabbled in map making and its not easy. There are so many things to consider! Not only do you want them to look good but they need to be accurate, and easy to read and there is so much information to fit in!

I was really excited when I found the map below at Papersmiths in Clifton at the weekend. It is a map of lots of great burger places in NYC - ha that is totally something I can get on board with. I will be taking this one too. This is created by a company called 'All you can eat press' - they have a few different maps for NY including all you can eat doughnuts!

Ages ago I had a dream about trying all of the restaurants in my local area and making a little local map like this and designing it all and including reviews and things. It could get pretty expensive and take so long but maybe one day I will do it...I would definitely like to practise my map making skills anyway!

Hope you enjoyed a little glimpse at these map beauties! Happy Friday, hope you all have a great weekend whatever you are up to!

New York, New York

New York has had a part of my heart now for quite a number of years. Pretty soon I after I graduated I headed over the pond for 3 months to do an internship with a guy who was a one man band design studio. I worked alongside him and learnt from him and worked on projects for some pretty awesome clients including the MTA and also the School of American Ballet. That trip was 6 years ago and I haven't been to NY since, but this year NM and I have a trip planned. He has never been before and I am dying to go back, so we are both pretty excited. We will be there for 5 days at the beginning of June (and then we head to Boston for some adventures there too) - so if you have any recommendations of things to do and places to see I would LOVE to hear them. I want to have a good list before we head off.

Now enough about our holiday plans. I wanted to share with you some stunning New York related art work. When I started experimenting with linocut Luke pointed me in the direction of Hannah Cousins who creates these absolutely stunning linocuts of scenes in New York. They are getting me even more excited about our trip but I am also dreaming about having one of these on my wall. You can see (and buy) the whole series here. Also Hannah will be exhibiting her linocuts at the COB gallery in London from the 29th April until the 3rd May. Sounds like the perfect inspiring  outing to me. If you are in London you should check it out!

I really need to have another go playing around with linocutting!  Hope you are feeling inspired and enjoying your Wednesday!
